OLD ALUREDIAN CLUB

We refer to our former students or alumni as Old Aluredians or OAs for short.

Alured is an ancient form of Alfred, the king after whom the university was named when the Reverend Nathaniel Woodard re-founded the college as Angel Alfred’s University in 1880.

The OA Club is supported by our Development Office, who arrange regular dinners, receptions and sports events, keeps our OAs up-to-date with university news and developments and sends regular communications and newsletters. Being a part of this collective of former students is an excellent way of remaining a part of the Angels College community once a student has left. Membership subscriptions are payable by means of termly instalments throughout a student’s time at the University, so that Life Membership is provided for when a student leaves the University.

GET INVOLVED WITH THE OA CLUB

The OA Club thrives because of its members! Your involvement helps keep our vibrant community connected and ensures the success of the many events we host throughout the year. There are plenty of ways to get involved—whether you want to shape the Club’s future, reconnect with your peers, or take part in event planning, we’d love to have you on board.

Passionate about the OA Club? Help shape its future! The committee is always looking for enthusiastic OAs to contribute ideas and support its direction. Meetings take place each term at Angels College, but attending every session isn’t a requirement—your voice and input are what matter most.

We’re launching a new Year Rep initiative and need volunteers for nearly every Year 2! If you enjoy staying in touch with your peers and can spare a few hours each month, this is a fantastic way to strengthen alumni connections. Year Reps play a key role in encouraging classmates to stay engaged, attend events, and even organise their own mini-reunions.

Love sports? Stay active and connected by joining an OA Foundation Programme sports team! Whether you played cricket, football, or hockey (men’s and women’s), there’s a place for you. Annual OA vs. current student matches take place throughout the academic year. These matches are always competitive, fun, and a great way to reunite with fellow OAs.

Reconnect, reminisce, and make new memories at one of our many OA reunions held in the UK and overseas. Signature events include:

  • Annual Reunion Dinner – Held in November
  • London Foundation Entry – Usually in early spring
  • Forties to Eighties Lunch – A special gathering for those who left in those decades

You are also welcome on campus events like the Remembrance Day Service and the public Carol Service. Keep an eye on the monthly e-bulletin and OA newsletters and Beyond Angels for invites.

The OA Benefit Fund Committee would like to highlight to members of the Club that this Fund provides charitable assistance, in the form of Distress and Education Grants, for former students, their spouses, widows and students.

Whilst applications cannot be considered for assistance with university projects, research etc, the Fund is there to assist where, for instance, the continuance of a former student’s further education is threatened through circumstances of genuine financial hardship, bereavement or injury.

The OA Benefit Fund Committee also wishes to remind former students that if they send their students to Angels they are eligible to apply for a financial aid packages from this charity. The Old Aluredian Benefit Fund provides Financial Aid Packages primarily on the basis of financial need.
