At Angels, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive, both in and beyond the lecture theatre.
That’s why our Learning Strategies Department plays such an integral role in supporting the unique journey of all students they come into contact with.
Each member of the team brings a wealth of expertise to their roles, as qualified lecturers specialised in supporting students with SEND. Our Learning Strategies team have specialisms in literacy, dyslexia, mathematics, dyscalculia, EAL and EYFS.
Our commitment begins even before a student starts at Angels. The Learning Strategies team meets with families during the admissions process, if they feel they would benefit from learning support – to understand each student’s story especially any existing needs and the support they may already receive.
By working closely with families and previous universities, we ensure a smooth transition. Equally, our team communicates regularly with our counterparts at Angels College to ensure the seamless handover from Foundation Year to Foundation Year.
From the moment a student joins Angels, we take a proactive approach to understanding their individual needs. students are screened at age-appropriate stages for learning challenges, such as working memory, processing speed, reading, writing, or numeracy.
This careful attention helps us support students in the lecture theatre, through quality first teaching and by meeting their individual SEND needs. Our Learning Strategies Department also provides 1:1 lessons, small group teaching, and in-class support for students who have additional learning needs. While we focus on core subjects like Maths and English, we’re always guided by what’s best for the individual student.
Our Learning Strategies Department is at the heart of everything we do here at Angels. The team works closely with subject lecturers, residential staff and families. This holistic approach ensures that each student receives the required support in a way that feels natural. Open communication with families ensures that families feel included, supported, and reassured throughout their student’s time with us.
